Establishing the Non-Academic Staff Development Cell (NASDC)  : A Dedicated Hub for Non-Academic Staff Development

Non-academic staff play a crucial role in the success of higher education institutions, ensuring efficient administration, student support, and institutional growth. Recognizing this, the ENACT project has taken a significant step toward enhancing the professional development of non-academic staff across Sri Lankan universities. This project is co-funded by the Erasmus + Programme of the European Union.

As part of Work Package 03, Deliverable 3.6 (Activity 4) of the ENACT project, the establishment of a Non-Academic Staff Development Cell (NASDC) at each Sri Lankan partner university has been mandated. This initiative ensures a sustainable structure dedicated to enhancing governance, management, and capacity-building for non-academic staff, aligning with institutional growth strategies and performance excellence.

The NASDC serves as a central entity within the university, tasked with designing, delivering, and assessing training programs for non-academic staff. Each university has the flexibility to establish the Cell as either an independent structure or as part of a broader administrative center, ensuring integration with institutional priorities.

Core Functions of NASDC

The NASDC plays a crucial role in:

  • Professional Training & Development: Organizing workshops, mentorship programs, and targeted training to enhance skills in leadership, communication, and administrative efficiency.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Hosting events with external partners to foster knowledge-sharing and best practices.
  • Policy Implementation: Developing structured policies for career progression, performance assessment, and professional development.
  • Long-Term Sustainability: Embedding NASDC activities into the university framework for ongoing development and institutional commitment.

Through the establishment of NASDCs, the ENACT project reinforces its commitment to building a robust, well-managed, and internationally connected higher education system in Sri Lanka. We invite all stakeholders to support and engage with this transformative initiative.
