Founded in 1737, the Georg-August-Universität Göttingen (UGOE) is a comprehensive research university of high international reputation with a strong focus on research-driven teaching. UGOE has extensive experience in exchange programs such as Erasmus Lifelong Learning Program, Erasmus Mundus, and many more including bilateral exchange agreements with universities worldwide including the Central Asia. In its constantly expanding range of Master’s and Ph.D. programs the University cultivates excellence and offers the proximity to research. Study programmes run in English, bi-national degrees and compulsory periods spent abroad prepare graduates for the international job market. Doctoral training in Göttingen is concentrated in structured programmes based at 4 Graduate Schools: Georg August University School of Science (GAUSS) – Göttingen Graduate School of Social Sciences (GGG), Graduate School of Humanities Göttingen (GSGG), and Graduate School Forest and Agricultural Sciences (GFA). The four Graduate Schools provide the organisational superstructure for the research training groups, doctoral programmes and International Max-Planck Research Schools. The aim of these schools is to optimise the research- and learning-conditions for doctoral candidates, offering intensive supervision and a range of seminars designed to advance the training of first-class scientists and scholars.

Approximately 31,654 young people currently study at the University, some 13.04% of whom are from abroad – a clear demonstration of the pull that the University has long exerted internationally. UGOE offers more than 200 courses in English. There are 2 BSc, 38 MSc, and 36 Ph.D. international degree programs offered at the UGOE. UGOE has a well-equipped International Relations Office with 40 staff members with a Welcome Centre which helps all incoming guest researchers and HEI administrative staff with visa, finding accommodation, and other administrative procedures as well as practical advice.
